Auckland Airport Scenic Lookout

A dedicated lookout built by Auckland Airport on Puhinui Road, with a car park directly overlooking the runway. Popular local tip: reverse into a space, open the boot and watch from the back of the car - it doubles as rain shelter. Also reachable on foot from the terminal via a paved path. Note the road is one-way for access, so if you overshoot you will need to continue on and loop back.

Best time

Open 06:00-22:00, closing 20:30 on Fridays. Early morning suits photographers.

Parking

Dedicated car park at the lookout. Entrances on both sides of the road, but no U-turns permitted - check which side you want first. No facilities.
