Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Planespotted ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information — your email address and, if you provide them, username, display name and bio.
Content you submit — spot locations, descriptions, photos, ratings and reviews.
Subscription information — if you subscribe to Pro, Stripe processes your payment and we store your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference. We never receive or store your full card number.
Technical data — basic log and device data needed to operate and secure the Service, and, if you allow it, your device location (only to centre the map — it is not stored).

2. How we use information

We use your information to provide and maintain the Service, authenticate you, display your content, process subscriptions, respond to requests, moderate content (including automated screening of uploads and submitted text for unsafe material), prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.

3. Service providers we share with

We rely on trusted third parties who process data on our behalf:

Vercel — application hosting; processes requests and server logs (including IP addresses) to serve and secure the Service.
Supabase — database, authentication and file storage.
Stripe — subscription payments.
Resend — transactional emails (verification, password reset).
OpenAI — automated moderation of photos you upload and text you submit, to detect unsafe content. Content is sent for classification and is not used to train its models.
Slack — internal tooling we use to review content that users report; a report may include the reported content and the reporter's username.
Open-Meteo — weather data (queried by coordinates, no personal data sent).
OpenStreetMap — map tiles.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy terms. Some of these providers may process data in countries other than your own; where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for those transfers.

4. Cookies & sessions

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to secure the Service. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

5. Public content

Spots, photos, ratings, reviews and your username are visible to other users and the public by design. Please do not upload anything you want to keep private, and do not upload images or information you do not have the right to share.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and meet legal obligations. You can delete your spots at any time and request deletion of your account by contacting us.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including row-level security and encrypted connections, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
