Stansted Airport Viewing Area

A long grass strip beside the runway on Belmer Road, reached by parking on the road and walking through the hedge. Popular with spotters for the freight traffic, including regular 747 freighters. Bring a chair and a picnic - there is nothing else there. The boundary fence is old and partially obstructs the view in places.

100-400mm for runway movements. The fence sits in the way at ground level, so height helps.

Best time

Open 24 hours. Sunset is a well-regarded time here. Freight movements are heavier at night and early morning.

Parking

Roadside parking on Belmer Road, then a short walk through the hedge. No toilets, food or drink anywhere nearby.
