PHL Unofficial Observation Area

The established Philadelphia spotting spot, a roadside pull-in with an excellent view of arrivals passing close overhead. Consistently rated the best position at PHL by regulars. Two practical notes: park on the opposite side of the fence, as parking on the fence side is not permitted, and expect limited fleet variety - mostly American 737s, A320s and regional jets, with 787s appearing from midday and more widebodies towards evening.

Lens guide

100-400mm for approaches; the fence is a persistent annoyance for framing.

Best time

Open 24 hours. Widebody movements concentrate from midday onwards and into the evening.

Park on the side opposite the fence. Parking on the fence side is not permitted.
